Best Irish books to enjoy when completing the #SimonSaysChallenge

Books are the perfect way to escape to lands far away when we’re in lockdown. We are privileged to have so many talented Irish authors on our shores who have stories aplenty to help us get through this period of uncertainty.

We’ve compiled a list of our favourites that range from self help to fiction to give you some food for thought during the #SimonSaysChallenge or if you’re just in need of a bit of escapism.

  • After The Silence by Louise O’Neill – this is a thrilling novel about an unsolved murder on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. It’s a captivating page turner that will have you hooked from beginning to end
  • Naked: 10 Truths to change your life by Caroline Foran – we’ve read all of Caroline’s books and her new one does not disappoint. It’s an essential read for anyone interested in behaviour and what informs our actions
  • Grown Ups by Marian Keyes – a cleverly written novel about family dynamics and how appearances can be deceiving. A brilliant book for anyone looking for a bit of escapism
  • Break the Mould by Sinead Burke – a super choice for anyone reading to little ones. Sinead has perfectly captured what it means to be comfortable in your own skin. A gorgeous an uplifting read
  • Strange Flowers by Donal Ryan – A gripping novel about an Irish childhood – the hermetic rhythms, ceaseless scrutiny and class hierarchies of village life. An important read that is moving and beautifully written
